Common Skin Conditions

Contra- indication - which is a condition which makes a particular treatment or procedure potentially inadvisable.

Contra- action - is an adverse reaction that occurs due to unforeseen conditions such as an allergy to a preparatory product used during treatment or a substance such as latex gloves.


Disorders of pigmentation

  • Acanthosis nigricans is a skin condition characterised by areas of dark, velvety discolouration in body folds and creases. The affected skin can become thickened.
  • Melasma  is a common skin problem. It causes brown to gray-brown patches on the face. 
  • Pityriasis alba is a common skin condition first characterised by red, scaly patches. 
  • Facial redness, bumps and pimples, irritated eyes, and thickened skin are all possible symptoms of a common, chronic, inflammatory condition called rosacea.
Skin infections
  • Meningitis is an infection that causes the membranes to become inflamed and can cause the skin become blotchy, with a red rash that doesn't fade when a glass is rolled over it.
  • Vitiligo is a lose of pigment on the skin.
  • Abscess is a swollen area within body tissue, containing an accumulation of pus.
Longterm skin disorders
  • Eczema is a condition where the skin becomes itchy dry and inflamed which can irritate the skin.
  • Psoriasis is a condition which forms thick red bumpy patches covered with silvery scales.
Bacterial infection
  • Carbuncle is a skin condition where the skin is red and irritated with lumps under the skin.
  • Cold sore is a red fluid filled blister that appears near the mouth and can be passed on to others.
  • Acne is a conditions when one can inherit small red raised bumps caused by infected hair follicles.
  • Impetigo is a contagious bacterial skin infection forming pustules and yellow crusty sores.
  • Cellulitis is a bacterial infection of the deep layers of the skin, the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue.
Viral infections 
  • Measles is a condition an infectious viral disease causing fever and a red rash, typically occurring in childhood.
  • Molluscum Contagiosum is a noncancerous skin growth caused by a virus infecting the top layers of the skin. 
  • Pityriasis rosea is a mild, but common, skin condition. Characterized by scaly, pink, inflamed skin.
